Back in the early Middle Ages Florence's Abbey owned the lot ..... much later it became the parish church of Beatrice Portinari, love of Dante's life.  He includes a description of her in Commedia.  In 1373 Boccaccio delivered lectures and readings on the Divine Comedy here.  The beautiful tower emerged from a major rebuild in the mid 2010s.
