Note:  As noted, the political boundaries relate to around 1000, just before the spread of Norman rule through firstly Southern Italy then Sicily.  By 1200, Arab Sicily and Byzantine Southern Italy were no more, the Normans had come and gone, and the young Frederick II had just taken over as King Emperor
