Santa Maria Maggiore     Santa Prassede     Santa Pudenziana     Santa Bibiana     SS Silvestro e Martino al Monte     San Pietro in Vincoli

Santa Maria Maggiore and Santa Prassede are obligatory and favourite visits for team Paradox.  We normally get a taxi up the hills in order to arrive fresh and before the tourist busses to marvel again at the 1200 + year old mosaics.

Santa Maria Maggiore - simply the best on the Major Basilicas !

Santa Prassede

Another early Christian Mosaic treasure trove

Restaurant Possibilités

La Forcetta d’Oro (near S Prassede), Via S Martino ai Monti, 40 (/Via Domenichino) - conveniently placed lunch location in a restaurant free area (unless you like Italian Chinese) with local Italian clientele - always a good sign!

Ristorante del Giglio, Via Torino 137 (near the Opera House).  Tel 06 488 1606.  We had a good meal here after the opera in the early 2000s.

Santa Pudenziana

The earliest apse basin mosaic - down the hill.

Santa Bibiana

Bernini's first church project, now sandwiched between tram and train lines.
