About Paradoxplace

The view from Erice - another ancient Greek city site in an even more stunning position on top of a mountain in the far NE of Sicily.  Erice was continuously inhabited after the Greeks left, and is now an interesting narrow streeted medieval town, with superior views on the way up and down!

The Chiesa Matrice was built in the thirteen hundreds using stone from the earlier Temple of Venus.  The separate tower was a Norman defensive structure before the church was built.  Going inside, one is surprisingly surrounded by milky white interior adornments of the eighteen hundreds that are outstandingly beautiful and harmonious - which can't be said about most eighteen hundreds jobs!

Even if you suffer from vertigo, brave the trip up to the town just to see the ceiling of the church!
