Spain is number two in the world in terms of installed wind power electricity production capacity. Germany is number one, and together the two countries account for over 50% of the world's installed wind power generating capacity. Spain has a target of a massive 20,000 MW wind capacity by 2011 - about 15% of the country's projected total generating capacity. They are already about half way to this target. Taking a figure of 4 MW per generator, this means that there are already over 2,000 wind turbines at work, a fact which is often visually in your face as you drive along the Camino roads of the North. |
